Description
IWC Ingenieur IW323906 is one of the most attractive and highly regarded configurations of this generation of the Ingenieur. Its slim stainless steel case, bright dial and rose-gold-plated hands and markers create an exceptionally elegant combination. At the same time, the steel bracelet gives the watch a distinctive sports-watch personality.
Reference IW323906 was introduced in 2013 as part of a comprehensively redesigned Ingenieur collection. The model retained important aesthetic codes originating from Gérald Genta's legendary Ingenieur SL of 1976. Moreover, reference 3239 became the first Ingenieur to feature crown guards.
The history of the collection goes back much further. The first IWC Ingenieur was launched in 1955 as a technical watch featuring, among other innovations, a soft-iron inner case for magnetic-field protection. In the 1970s, Gérald Genta then gave the collection its unmistakable luxury sports-watch identity.
The IW323906 stands out thanks to its bright silver dial and applied rose-gold-plated hour markers and hands. Consequently, the watch has a warmer and more refined character than the monochromatic versions of the same generation. The gold-toned details also provide a beautiful contrast against the stainless steel case and bracelet.
In person, this configuration is especially impressive. The bright dial changes subtly depending on the surrounding light, while the gold-toned hands and markers add depth and warmth. Therefore, the watch works equally well with casual clothing and more elegant outfits.
One of the biggest advantages of this Ingenieur is its proportions. The case measures approximately 40 mm in diameter and only 10 mm in thickness. As a result, it remains exceptionally slim for a stainless steel sports watch while sitting beautifully on the wrist.
Despite its refined appearance, the Ingenieur retains its technical DNA. The movement is protected by a soft-iron inner case against magnetic fields. Furthermore, the screw-down crown and 120-metre water resistance make the watch genuinely practical for everyday wear.
Inside beats the automatic IWC Calibre 30110. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides approximately 42 hours of power reserve. In addition, it features central hacking seconds and a quick-set date mechanism.
Calibre 30110 is based on a proven construction and perfectly suits the practical personality of the Ingenieur. Therefore, the IW323906 can easily serve as a genuine everyday watch rather than simply remaining inside a collector's box.
The stainless steel bracelet is an essential part of the design. Brushed surfaces are combined with polished details, allowing the bracelet to complement the finishing of the case beautifully. At the same time, its broad links reinforce the sporty yet elegant character of the watch.
IWC Ingenieur IW323906 is particularly interesting today for collectors who appreciate classic integrated-style steel sports watches but want something less obvious. Moreover, this specific configuration with gold-toned hands and markers is considerably more distinctive than the standard rhodium-plated variants.
The reference now belongs to IWC's past collection. Consequently, this exact configuration is no longer available as a new Ingenieur from the manufacture. Its approximately 40 mm by 10 mm proportions also distinguish it clearly from many larger contemporary IWC sports watches.
This example dates from 2013 and comes complete with all original IWC boxes and documents.
The watch is in very good condition with only minor signs of wear
