Description
IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph IW377709 is a classic pilot’s watch from the Schaffhausen manufacture. Its black dial, stainless-steel case and characteristic chronograph layout create an understated configuration that works exceptionally well as an everyday watch.
The case measures 43 mm in diameter, making the watch particularly suitable for medium and larger wrists. At the same time, its restrained colour scheme prevents it from feeling overly flashy despite its substantial dimensions.
For me, this is one of the strongest qualities of the IW377709. It has a distinctly sporty and aviation-inspired personality while remaining extremely versatile for everyday use.
The black dial clearly references traditional cockpit instruments. Large white Arabic numerals, highly legible hands and the characteristic triangle at 12 o’clock give the watch its unmistakable Pilot design.
The dial also incorporates both day and date indications. In addition, the chronograph measures hours, minutes and seconds, while the small seconds feature a hacking function.
The stainless-steel case measures 43 mm in diameter and 15.4 mm in height. It features a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Furthermore, the crystal is secured against displacement caused by sudden drops in air pressure.
As expected from a traditional IWC Pilot’s Watch, a soft-iron inner case protects the movement against magnetic fields. This technical feature strongly reflects the functional aviation heritage of the collection.
Inside beats the automatic IWC Calibre 79320. It provides approximately 44 hours of power reserve, operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and uses 25 jewels. The movement consists of 240 components.
The calibre provides hours, minutes, small seconds, day, date and a chronograph capable of timing periods of up to 12 hours. It is a proven construction that suits the practical everyday character of this watch particularly well.
Reference IW377709 was originally offered on a black Santoni calfskin strap. The classic black leather complements the dial perfectly and further enhances the understated personality of the watch.
IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph IW377709 now belongs to IWC’s past collection. In my opinion, this makes it especially interesting for enthusiasts who prefer the more traditional styling of the earlier Pilot’s Watch generation.
This example dates from 2017 and comes complete with all original IWC boxes and documents.
Condition is very good with only minimal signs of wear.
